Limestone

Limestone, a Sedimentary Rock, is composed of calcite and dolomite. Many limestones are formed from marine organisms which settled on ocean or sea floors. Colors range from light ivory to dark tan, beige and taupe. It is light in density, has a high absorption rate and lower abrasion rate. On the Mohs scale of hardness it ranks from a 4-5. As with all natural stones, sealing is recommended, 3-4 times a year.

The use of limestone is generally more limited for interior use because of its softness and reaction to acidic properties which will etch the surface if polished. It is not recommended for high traffic areas and is more appropriately seen as a vanity, fireplace surround, low traffic flooring, tub decks, and showers. Certain limestones may be appropriate for exterior commercial applications.
